    Peace Garden at Greenshire

Be at peace with your own soul then heaven & earth will be at peace with you.”

    ~Saint Isaac (circa 7th century)

As a living monument to its vision for a peaceful life and a peaceful world, Greenshire is building an artistically-planned

Peace Garden for all to enjoy. The Peace Garden is a community project, incorporating many people in various capacities,

and will be officially dedicated this coming fall on September 27, 2008. Included in the design of beauty and stillness, are

focal areas with plants, statuary, water gardens and resting places. It will also be the location of a Peace Pole, a symbol

of world outreach for peace and Greenshire's commitment toward promoting a peaceful life.

    Site Design

The design for the Greenshire Peace Garden comprises a sweeping entrance path based on the “golden spiral” or logarithmic spiral found in nature (nautilus shells, sunflower seed patterns). This path leads to a circle with four symmetrical flower gardens that surround a tall Peace Pole with the inspiring words May Peace Prevail on Earth.

Large rocks, benches and an earth berm surround and protect the Peace Garden, with a thinly-curved bed of flowers between the benches to accentuate the “energy” of the circle.  The four gardens also symbolize the four cardinal directions as well as referencing earth, air, fire and water. There may also be introduced water elements to provide an additional healing environment.

The circle is an ancient symbol of many cultures for the Sacred; representing many things to many people including the sun and moon, the “circle of life”, the “wheel of life”, the cycle of the seasons and the eternal aspect of life.  We gather round a circle and celebrate the unity, harmony and essence of peace together. The spiral path to the center of the garden can symbolize life’s journey to the peaceful center within each of us; the circle also provides unity for people to gather together to promote a vision of world peace.

    'The Art of Peace'

The Art of Peace begins with you. Work on yourself and your appointed task in the Art of Peace. Everyone has a spirit that can be refined, a body that can be trained in some manner, a suitable path to follow. You are here for no other purpose than to realize your inner divinity and manifest your innate enlightenment. Foster peace in your own life and then apply the Art to all that you encounter.

One does not need buildings, money, power, or status to practice the Art of Peace. Heaven is right where you are standing, and that is the place to train.

The Art of Peace is medicine for a sick world. There is evil and disorder in the world because people have forgotten that all things emanate from one source. Return to that source and leave behind all self-centered thoughts, petty desires, and anger. Those who are possessed by nothing possess everything.

The Path is exceedingly vast. From ancient times to the present day, even the greatest sages were unable to perceive and comprehend the entire truth; the explanation and teachings of masters and saints express only part of the whole. It is not possible for anyone to speak of such things in their entirety. Just head for the light and heat, learn from the gods, and through the virtue of devoted practice of the Art of Peace, become one with the Divine.   From “The Art of Peace”,   Morihei Ueshiba, founder of Aikido

"If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other." - Mother Teresa
